STEIN[mdash] Monsignor Timothy P., 60, Altoona, died Thursday April 19, 2018 at the St. Mary Immaculate Conception rectory. He was born March 22, 1958 in Johnstown,PA son of the late Charles H. and Josephine A. (Ferramini) Stein. He is survived by a sister Elizabeth Kinley and her husband Michael of Jefferson, MD, two nieces: Laura Catalani and her husband J. Tyler and Emily Kinley, a great niece Eleanor Grace Catalani and an aunt Virginia Ferramini. Monsignor Stein was graduate of Indiana University of PA where he received a BA in Journalism and a graduate of Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, OH, where he received a Masters Degree in Divinity. Monsignor Stein was serving as Pastor of St. Mary Immaculate Conception parish in Altoona for the past 14 years. In addition to his pastoral duties he was Editor of the Altoona-Johnstown newspaper, The Catholic Register for the past 29 years. Monsignor Stein was ordained May 19, 1984 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament by Bishop James Hogan. Monsignor's priestly ministry included assignments as a Parochial Vicar at Sacred Heart Altoona, 1984-1986, St. John the Evangelist, Lakemont, 1989-1991, St. Michael the Archangel, Hollidaysburg, 1991-1996, and as Pastor at St. Monica, Chest Springs, 1996-2004 and at St. Mary Immaculate Conception, Altoona, 2004-present. Monsignor Stein was appointed Chaplain to His Holiness in 2001. He was a member of the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada where he served on the board of directors from 1998-2001 and also served as Treasurer from 2000-2001. There will be a Reception of the Body service at 2pm Monday April 23, 2018 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church followed by receiving of friends from 2-8 pm at the church, 1405 5th Ave. Altoona. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday April 24, 2018 by Most Rev Bishop Mark Bartchak. Committal will be held at St Bartholomew Cemetery, Wilmore. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. Mary's Improvement Fund, 1405 5th Ave. Altoona, PA 16602, in memory of Monsignor.
