Regis S. McCloskey Obituary

McCloskey - Regis S., 88, of Altoona, died on September 29, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Gallitzin, a son of the late Regis and Ann (Stitko) McCloskey on June 10, 1936.

On May 20, 1961, he married Rita DeCarlo. He is survived by his five children: daughter, Joan Banks; sons, Regis Jr. (Christine), David (Gloria), Sam (Wendy), Steve (Nicole), all of Altoona; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Ingrid), Richard, Robert, James (Margaret); sisters, Dorsey Kupetz, Donna Smithbauer, Cindy Petyak (James), Patty Guyer, Holly Carper (Ed), and Georgette Arthur (Ken).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and brothers, Daniel and Ronald, as well as his sister, Shiela Hall.

Regis worked in construction most of his life as a Carpenter and Construction Superintendent. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 50 years. He spent many years traveling out of town for work until he decided to return home in the mid-1990s, where he would go to work for McCloskey Builders. He spent the next 25 years helping to build the company. One of his greatest feelings of pride was helping to build the company. He enjoyed

working with his sons up until he retired at the age of 82.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling, going to the casino with his wife, and growing his tomato plants. He also enjoyed attending his grandkid's sporting events and performances.

Regis was a man of great strength. During the last 15 years of his life, he survived many health challenges. We will miss Regis dearly and will be forever grateful for our time with him. The holidays at his and Rita's house are some of the favorite times we will all remember.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024, at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, celebrated by Monsignor Stanley Carson.
