Johnstown, PA - Couteret - Richard L. "Dick" Sr., 88 passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Born in Phillipsburg, Pa., to Arlene Couteret McGonigal on May 1, 1938. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, John A and Lydia M. (Kephart) Couteret in Karthaus, Pa. He graduated from Cooper High School, Winburne Pa., in 1956 and moved to Johnstown, Pa. He met his wife, Yvonne E. Heinrich and they married in 1959 during his leave after basic training for the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed with the Air Force in northern Africa and Germany before returning home to Lockbourne AF Base, Ohio, where he finished serving his duty and was joined by his wife.

Dick was a father to three children, Kimberly Kennedy (Brian), Harrisburg, Pa.; Beth Graffius (Martin), Johnstown, Pa.; and Richard Jr. "Rick" (Rachel), Poquoson, Va. He took great pride in the success of all 3 of his children and even more in his nine grandchildren, Katelynn, Morgan, and Alexandria Kennedy; Ryan, Travis, Aiden and Noah Graffius; and Nathan (Karissa) and Matthew (Crystal) Couteret. He always had a soft spot in his heart for all the family dogs that came into their house and for all of the grand dogs that were brought into their homes.

Dick was a truck driver and drove for numerous companies throughout his career including Structures Steel, Johnstown; Mills Bros Trucking; MFX Trucking; Cooney Bros Coal Company and Metzler Bros Transport. Von used to say he wasn't happy unless he had a wheel in front of him.

Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Von of 59 years; his mother, Arlene, and parents, John and Lydia; brothers, Jack and Paul Couteret; sister, Betty Couteret Gray.

Dick is survived by his three children and nine grandchildren; brother, Dave McGonigal; sisters, Claudia Yingling and Alicia Lumadue; various in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment of Richard will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetary, Frankstown Road, Johnstown, on Friday, August 7, at 10 a.m., with a celebration of life held at 11 a.m. at Elton Zion Methodist Church, Elton, Pa., with a luncheon to follow. The family wishes to thank Interim HealthCare of Johnstown staff and the Richland Nursing and Rehabilitation staff for their care and compassion, and the James E Van Zandt Veterans' Services staff for their service, help and caring of Dad these past few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Interim Hospice or any Veterans' Organization in Richard's name.
