Richard H. Walters
73, entered into rest on Saturday March 10, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia S. (Rowe) Walters. He was born September 12, 1944 in Sidman, PA. The son of the late Harold E. and Margaret L. (Smith) Walters. He was a graduate of Millersville University BS Secondary Education, Western Maryland College Masters Degree and Administration Supervision, and the University of Maryland Certification Vocational and Cooperative Education. He had worked for Baltimore County Schools for 30 years first as teacher and later in Administration. Later he worked for a 10 years as Director, Adams County Tech Prep Consortium. He also lectured for Western Maryland College, Catonsville Community College and Penn State York during his career. After retirement Richard enjoyed his part-time job at Cool Creek Golf Course and loved playing golf with his friends several times a week. He was an avid reader and searched for new information about things. He kept in touch with friends old and new and with former students. He was a people person and no one was ever a stranger to him. In the last 10 years he and his wife traveled in many countries and places and he made friends on each trip. Upon returning home they were always glad to see their children and grandchildren because family always meant everything to them both. Richard was a member of First Presbyterian Church in York, Victory AA, Hawks Club, Adams County Economic Development Corporation-Executive Board, PA CareerLink-Adams County Marketing Director, and York-Adams County Workforce Development Committee. Richard worked on The Scholarship Committee for The Victory Athletic Association and played a large role in organizing their golf tournament each year. He also worked on Game Changers Scholarship Committee for Millersville University. Having gone to college on a football scholarship he felt the commitment to give back to deserving students. He is survived by his wife Patricia and a son Theodore R. Walters of Charlotte, NC, two daughters Robin Walters Workinger and husband Gary of Sudlersville, MD. Lisa S. Gim and husband Thomas Jun Gim of Baltimore, MD, grandchildren: Nathan, Daniel, Collin, Kaylyn, Claire, Ethan, and Sarah Grace Workinger, Dylan and Taylor Gim, Gabriel and Avery Walters, three siblings: William H. Walters and wife Rayetta of Monroeville, PA, Ronald D. Walters and wife Victoria of Mechanicsburg, PA, Marsha L. Hartrick and husband Richard of New Philadelphia, OH, an aunt Kitty Mae Smith of Johnstown, many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be in the near future details to follow. A private burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 902 Mt. Rose Ave. is assisting with the arrangements.
