Robert E. Bakale Obituary

Robert E. Bakale, 91, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Dunlo, Pa, son of the late Steve and Barbara Matlin Bakale. He married Margaret Plasko at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ehrenfeld, Pa. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Debbie (Dave) Walter of Manassas, Va; two grandchildren: Danielle (John) Meriwether and Nicole (Brian) McGinn; three great-grandchildren: Gavin and Mason McGinn and Samantha (Annie) Meriwether; seven sisters: Mary Naglic of Oregon, Mildred Fedore of Beaverdale, Eleanora (John) Estok of Cleveland, OH, Dolores (Tony) Gwidzak of Nanty Glo, Betty Jane Pristas of Pittsburgh, Barbara Wess of New Germany and Darlene (Steve) Berzansky of MA. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Steven Jr., Ernest, Edward, and Joseph Bakale. Robert graduated from Adams Township High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired as a carpet and drapery salesman from Penn Furniture in 1988. He was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. He enjoyed gardening and crafts. There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church by Father D. Timothy Grimme. Committal will be at St. Mary and St. John Cemetery in New Germany. Arrangements by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona.
