Robert L. Jones, 95 of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Keeper of the Flame Morewood, Blairsville, PA. He was born April 30, 1921 at Waterloo, IA, the son of the late LeRoy Jones and Bessie E. (Staley) Jones. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville, PA. Robert served in the US Navy for 26 years. He served during the Korean War and WW II. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration and was also a retired US Navy Captain. Bob was a member of the VRF-1 Aircraft Ferry Squadron. He was a member of the Quiet Bird Man fraternity, Flight Standards Retirees and the Military Order of the World Wars Indiana Chapter #200. He also was a member of the BPOE #406 and American Legion Post #0407 both of Blairsville. Bob was an avid aviator. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Shirley L. (Gindlesberger) Jones of Blairsville, PA; son, J. Steven Jones & wife, Cindy of WA; son, Terry L. Jones of WA; son, Richard D. Jones & wife, Kendall of WA; son, Kevin D. Jones & wife, Renee of WA; step-son, Richard L Petrarca & wife, Gretchen of Erie, PA; step-son, Gary S. Petrarca & wife, Jeri of Chester, SC; step-daughter, Susan J. Lee & husband, Barry of Blairsville, PA; grandchildren: Adrianne, Kyle, Sarah, April, John, Nicholas, Jordan & Amanda and great grandchildren: Anthony, Ian, Joseph, Katie, Sophia, Rita, Emmet, Micah, William, Grant & Silas. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Yvonne (Joplin) Jones and brother, Vinton E. Jones. The Family will receive friends at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., Blairsville, PA on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from Noon - 4 PM. A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville, PA on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Dan Cunkelman will officiate. VFW Post #5821 & the American Legion Post #0407 will conduct military services Monday morning in Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Robert's name to the First United Methodist Church, 50 S. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA 15717.
