Monroe, MI - MIHELCIC - Sister Christine, a member of the Servants of Jesus, passed away into the peace of God on Sept. 21, 2025. She was a member of the Servants of Jesus since 1977. Prior to that, she had been a member of the Oxford Dominicans since1952. Sister Chris was born and raised in Central City, Pennsylvania, the youngest of nine children. Her parents, Margaret (Levar) and James Mihelcic, and her siblings, James, Frank, Joe, John, Tony, Andy, and Margaret are all deceased. She is survived by her sister, Jenny Novak; numerous nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in Pennsylvania; and the members of her community: Sisters Constance Weiss, Jean Marie Wojtas, Virginia Skurski, Fran Stefanski, Connie Bawinski and the Associates of the Servants of Jesus. Her long history of ministry included working in elementary and secondary Catholic schools in the diocese of Gaylord, Lansing, and the Archdiocese of Detroit as a teacher, librarian, counselor, residence director, director of guidance services, assistant principal, and principal. She also served as high school supervisor, acting superintendent, and superintendent of Catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Detroit. In June 1995, she retired from over 40 years of dedicated service in Catholic schools. Her ministry continued in July 1995 at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Farmington, MI, as director of pastoral ministries until she retired in 2011. Sister Chris served on the leadership team for the Servants of Jesus from 1985-1988, and served the needs of her community in whatever ways were needed. Her final years were spent at the St. Therese/IHM Senior Living Center in Monroe, MI, where two other Servants of Jesus also reside. Sister Chris, by her own admission, was a "task master, but beneath the veneer of business one would experience a witty humor, warmth in relationships, fidelity in friendship, and a concern for physical fitness." She was known for her early morning runs and walks. She loved to travel, especially her visits to her family in Pennsylvania. Friends will be received one hour prior to a 10 a.m. memorial Mass on Friday, Oct. 24, at Our Lady Queen of Angels (Sacred Heart), Father Aron Maghsoudi, celebrant. Committal, St. John the Baptist Cemetery. (www.mulcahyfuneralhome.com)
